Sequoia

The Sequoia series was inspired by cross sections of plant stems as seen under the microscope.

The nearly 1" thick glass is mostly clear w/ an iridized dark blue-black back layer that absorbs as well as reflects some wavelengths of light. The semi mirror image motif references the new science of synthetic biology where scientists are starting to "re-engineer" plants at the cellular level. It is my belief that these "engineered" plants should have obvious identifying characteristics to differentiate them from naturally evolving life forms. The symmetry shown is

usually manifested in insects and other life forms, not plants and so these plant forms that scientists create would be more easily identified.
